A COUPLE and their baby daughter died after a collision between their ear and a lorry outside Monasterevin, Co Kildare, yesterday.
The couple were Mr Gerard Prenderville and Mrs Norma Prenderville, of Brooklawn Drogheda Row, Monasterevin. Their daughter, Joanna, was aged two. The couple, who do not have any other children, had been living in the area for almost three years.
According to gardai in Monasterevin, Mrs Prenderville was in her 30s. Mr Prenderville was a chef and worked in the Stand House in the Curragh race course. He is believed to have come originally from Limerick. Mrs Prenderville was originally from Causeway in Co Kerry.
The father and child died immediately in the crash, which occurred at midday. Mrs Prenderville was taken to Portlaoise General Hospital and later transferred to Tullamore General Hospital, where she died last night.
According to gardai, the driver of the lorry was not injured. The accident happened on the main road on a straight stretch just outside Monasterevin. Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
