The Cork hurling selectors have tonight tendered their resignations in a bid to settle the dispute between the striking county hurlers and the county executive.
Selectors PJ Murphy, John Meyler, Pat McDonnell and county secretary Frank Murphy stepped down at the Pairc Ui Chaoimh meeting following the bitter dispute which has rocked the county.
Their departure had been expected although reports tonight suggest their decision was in the balance up until the last minute because one of the four selectors was reluctant to quit.
All 30 members of the current hurling panel withdrew their services from the county last weekend. They are refusing to train or play again until their treatment from the county board significantly improves.
The players have requester better gear, improved training facilities, an increase in ticket allowances, improved medical and meal facilities, and, among others, a foreign holiday for at least one week for each championship member and his partner.
The county board are to give ground on some of the issues which have led to the current hurlers strike.
In a letter, PJ Murphy, Pat McDonnell and John Meyler indicated they would be stepping down while Frank Murphy outlined he would not be continuing as the nominated selector of Cork county champions Blackrock.
