Less is no moreTesco has reportedly bowed to pressure from the British Plain English Campaign and is doing away with checkout signs which say "10 items or less". Critics, who probably should have more to be worried about, said it would have been more correct if the signs had said "10 items or fewer".

The new signs, however, will be displayed only in new stores, says a Tesco spokesman. "We are not going to see any new ones in existing shops so shoppers in those will not see the change."
