Compensation of £20m paid to Omagh victims

Victims of the Omagh bombing have received more than £20 million in compensation, it emerged tonight.

Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain said the Compensation Agency has fully resolved 826 of 852 criminal injury claims and to date £20.4 million has been paid.

Of the 220 criminal damage claims, 214 have been resolved with approximately £7.5 million paid in compensation.

The figures were published in a written reply to a question from Belfast East MP Peter Robinson.
