New Delhi - Irate commuters torched and smashed dozens of busses, forcibly stopped motorists for a lift and blocked traffic across India's capital yesterday, following a collapse of the city's public transport network, writes Rahul Bedi.

This transport meltdown follows a 1998 Supreme Court order that makes it mandatory for all public transport vehicles to convert from petrol and diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG) by April 1st or stay off the roads.
