Agreement has been reached between the Railway Procurement Agency and a consortium of private developers for the Citywest extension of the Tallaght Luas line.
Developers Davy Hickey Properties, Harcourt Developments and Jim Mansfield's HSS will put up €39 million and provide land for the 4.2km extension.
The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) would not divulge the overall cost of public-private partnership plan. A spokesman said yesterday this was in line with Department of Finance guidance in connection with Transport 21 projects.
The new line is to have stops at Fettercairn, Cheeverstown, Citywest Campus, Fortunestown and Saggart and will connect to the existing Red line between the Cookstown and Belgard stops.
The line is expected to carry about five million passengers per year. A park-and-ride facility is envisaged at Cheeverstown at the new Outer Ring road.
The project will still require planning approval and the RPA expects to submit an application in April. The route, if approved, is expected to be open by 2010.
