MANAGUA - With final results expected soon, the clamour was growing for a recount in Nicaragua's presidential election led by conservative ex-Managua mayor, Mr Arnoldo Aleman.
With 73.2 per cent of the country's polling stations reporting results of Sunday's elections, Mr Aleman maintained just under 49 per cent of the vote and Sandinista candidate, Mr Daniel Ortega, had 39, per cent, electoral officials said. But 11 candidates, including Mr Ortega, have criticised the vote count.
