A woman convicted of running a Dublin brothel was today given a six-month suspended sentence for failing to make tax returns on her income.
Ms Marie Bridgeman, 55, pleaded guilty on two counts after Dublin's District Court was told by an official from the Criminal Assets Bureau that she owed almost £200,000 over the two years relating to the offences.
When she was convicted of running a brothel earlier this year, the court heard that the mother-of-two had been making £3,000-a-week from establishments she operated in Dublin.
She subsequently received a bill from the Criminal Assets Bureau totalling £130,000 for the 1995-96 period and another for £64,000 in connection with last year.
The six-month suspended sentence was added to another suspended period of 18 months she received after the earlier conviction.
Ms Bridgeman's home in Santry was recently seized by the Revenue Commissioners and the £73,000 proceeds were put towards her outstanding tax bill.
The court was told there were not thought to be any other assets.
