The leisurely breakfast is largely a thing of the past for working folks and families, so perhaps Ennis Foods has hit the nail on the head with its new product, Rumblers.
Rumblers is an extraordinary concoction which gives you a bowl of cereal - there are three types: Cornflakes, Honey Nut Cornflakes and Cereal Clusters With Real Strawberries - along with a small carton of milk on top and a plastic, collapsible spoon inside. You detach the milk carton, lift out the spoon, pour over the milk, and eat it anywhere you want, but especially, I imagine, in a car in a traffic jam or on a train or bus.
Rumblers is the brainchild of Declan Ennis, from Co Kildare, and he devised the idea after his girlfriend saw a London commuter struggling to eat a bowl of cereal.
So, what are they like? Well, rather good, in fact, though I found them a little too sweet, which my wife puts down to my puritan attitude to sugar, while she enjoyed them very much. Rumblers cost 89 pence a carton, and you will find them pretty much everywhere, including garage forecourts and convenience stores.
