A 12 year old boy from Lurgan, Co Armagh, is recovering in hospital after he was hit by a plastic bullet on Saturday night. He is said to be in a comfortable condition in a Belfast hospital.

According to the RUC, a plastic bullet was fired after a military foot patrol came under attack by a gang of about 30 youths. However, local people in the Lurgantarry area of the town have disputed these clairns, insisting that the young boys were gathering sticks for a bonfire nearby.

The boy was transferred from Craigavon Hospital to the Royal Victoria Hospital for further examination. It is understood his injury is close to an eye.
