A boy is receiving treatment in hospital today after being hit by a Garda car in Limerick city.

A boy is receiving treatment in hospital today after being hit by a Garda car in Limerick city.

The incident occurred on Patrick Street at about 1.30pm.

The boy (12) was taken to Limerick's Midwestern Regional Hospital, where his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The matter is being investigated by the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission, which examines incidents involving members of the Garda.

A spokesman for the commission said officers were investigating an incident under Section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act, which covers incidents where the conduct of a member may have been responsible for the death or causing serious harm to a member of the public.
