A bouncer at Goodtime Charlie's disco in Howth has been found guilty of an assault which left a youth's jaw hanging from his face.

Mr Darragh O'Brien, now 22, had to have a metal plate inserted to reconnect his jaw bone. He told a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that he still suffered pains and numbness. William Hanlon (45), of Beau vale Park, Artane, was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm and of assault with intent to cause actual bodily harm to Mr O'Brien on January 12th, 1997.

The jury, which saw a security video recording of the assaults, found Hanlon not guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm to Mr Hugh Courtney, who had been standing with Mr O'Brien outside the premises when they were attacked by bouncers.

Hanlon was convicted in 1989 of malicious wounding, actual bodily harm, common assault and breach of the peace.

Judge Dominic Lynch remanded Hanlon in custody. A sentence date will be fixed on December 16th, 1999. Two other men, Kieran Cad well (37) of Conquer Hill, Clontarf and John Darcy of Swift's Close, Clonshaugh, pleaded guilty earlier this week to common assault on both Mr O'Brien and Mr Courtney.
