A body found in a derelict building in Letterkenny is believed to be that of a 34-year-old Polish man who was reported missing in Donegal on June 26th.

There was no evidence of a struggle and some indication that he may have been dead for almost three months.

Two Polish men discovered the skeletal remains when mushroom-picking in a field off the de Valera Road, Gortlee, early on Wednesday evening. They did not alert local gardaí for almost 24 hours, because they have poor English. An investigation was launched yesterday when both men, accompanied by an interpreter, reported the incident at Letterkenny Garda station yesterday afternoon. The scene was immediately sealed off .

A local superintendent said that identification on the body belonged to a Polish male who had been living in Donegal for several months, and who was reported missing in June.

"There was nothing on the scene to indicate any evidence of struggle but again we won't know until the postmortem and we see the results," Supt Vincent O'Brien said. State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy is expected to conduct a postmortem today.
