The father of a British soldier killed in Iraq hs demanded that Tony Blair stays away from a national memorial service this week.

Lce Bombardier Llywelyn Evans (24) died with 11 other servicemen when their helicopter crashed in the Kuwaiti desert on the first day of the war.

His father Mr Gordon Evans, from Llandudno, north Wales, said Mr Blair should not have sent British troops to fight and should stay away from the memorial service at St Paul's Cathedral on Friday.

He told BBC Radio Wales: "I think Mr Blair got it all wrong from the very beginning. He's just a puppet of Mr Bush, and the rest of Europe did not want to getinvolved.

"I think he's got a cheek to turn up on Friday and people are not going tolike it.

"He's the one who sent out troops in the first place. We wouldn't be having amemorial service if it wasn't for him," Mr Evans said.

Mr Evans said he had originally supported the war but now believed there wasno justification for it.

He said: "We all thought there was a reason for the war, but it's now clearthere wasn't a reason in the first place."

"Mr Blair should resign and disappear quietly. He definitely should not turn up at the memorial service."
