A security alert in Belfast which earlier closed the Westlink carriageway in both directions has been declared a hoax.

The road was closed this morning between Broadway and Grosvenor Road exits following the discovery of two suspicious objects.

The objects were found on the city-bound side of the carriageway after a police search located the devices following an earlier telephone warning.

Army technical officers attended the scene and later declared the objects a hoax.

The road has now reopened to traffic.
