One of the Royal Irish Regiment's six battalions in the North is to be disbanded. However, the British army yesterday insisted that the decision was not linked to nationalist demands for demilitarisation. A spokesman described it as "limited internal reorganisation". The 100 soldiers involved will be re-deployed to the regiment's five other battalions.
