Two robbers tied up a barman and stole what gardaí said was a "substantial" amount of cash during a raid at a pub in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, early this morning.

The barman was locking up the premises when he set upon by the two men, who were wearing baseball caps. He was taken upstairs and made to open the safe.

The raiders took the cash and escaped, leaving the barman locked in the storeroom.
