Salt Lake City - Southern Baptists on Thursday asked Congress to nullify President Bill Clinton's order banning discrimination against gays in federal jobs.

But delegates stopped short of further rebuking Mr Clinton when they narrowly defeated an amendment that would have called for the president's home Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, to discipline him because of his support for homosexual rights. They also voted to call for an end to training women in the military for combat.
