Insurers AXA expect to reach a new agreement with FIFA on cover for the 2002 World Cup after cancelling a deal following last month's attacks on the United States.
Axa Colonia is the French group's German unit that is leading a consortium of international insurers providing cover for the World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
It cancelled the existing contract with FIFA on Thursday due to the higher risks involved in the wake of the September 11th attacks.
"We expect there will be a new agreement in one form or the other," an Axa Colonia spokeswoman said today. "The parameters have changed so this could work through into higher premiums but it's still too early to say".
FIFA was paying 27.4 million Swiss francs (£14.53 million) in instalments for insurance cover for the 2002 event.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter said on Friday the contract would have to be renegotiated because the World Cup could not go ahead without cover.
