LIMA - Thirty-three people were confirmed dead and at least 100 others were missing after a massive mudslide early yesterday in Peru's southeastern Andean region of Apurimac, local officials said.
"We have recovered 33 bodies at this point. That is confirmed. Seventeen have been officially registered and another 16 are waiting to be transported, and identified," Mr Luis Barra Pacheco, mayor of Abancay, the capital of Apurimac, said. "Under the mud," he added "there are at least 100 people."
