All 260 students at the all-boys CBS secondary school in Dingle have been finger-printed as part of an investigation into recent arson attacks at the premises.
Gardaí said yesterday they believe the culprits responsible are associated with the school and that an arrest is imminent.
Sgt Mossie O'Donnell said nothing has led him to believe that anyone outside the school is responsible. Very few people were involved, he believed. An arrest would take place sooner rather than later, he indicated.
The principal's temporary office was destroyed in a fire at the school at the weekend.
On New Year's Day a fire burned out the old monastery part of the 130-year-old school including staff offices, the canteen and the main administration and principal's office.
Classrooms and the school library suffered significant smoke damage.
Some €250,000 worth of damage was caused and non-exam classes were a fortnight late returning to school after their Christmas break because alternative classrooms and canteen accommodation had to be found.
The principal of Dingle CBS, Mr Pádraig Firtear, said yesterday he had no idea who was behind it, or what the motivation was. He was "devastated and upset" at the second attack.
Mr Firtear appealed to those responsible to come forward "for the good of the children and community in west Kerry."
