Cairo - Three "rare and beautiful" wooden statuettes thought to be more than 4,000 years old were found in excellent condition in a tomb in Saqqara, south of the Egyptian capital, Cairo, a senior antiquities official said yesterday.

The statuettes represent the same person in three different positions, the secretary-general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mr Gaballah Ali Gaballah, said.
