WASHINGTON - US scientists used a DNA based vaccine to protect two chimpanzees injected with massive amounts of the AIDS virus, the Nature Medicine journal has reported. While the experimental vaccine, which is being tested on humans, could lead to a new approach in treating AIDS, researchers warn it is still too early to draw conclusions.
The good news is that we are making another step toward broadening the spectrum of different vaccine concepts that might ultimately be proven effective in human clinical trials," National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director, Mr Anthony Fauci, said in an interview with the New York Times.
