WASHINGTON - Americans' fear of contagion from the virus that causes AIDS has declined sharply during the past decade, according to a recent survey. The ABC News poll showed only 17 per cent said they were afraid they might become infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Concern about the transmission of AIDS by casual contact peaked at 29 per cent five years ago.
