Achill Island

What is believed to have been one of the longest parades in the country took place yesterday on Achill Island, Co Mayo. The 13-hour marathon began at 6 a.m. in Dooagh, the island's most westerly village when the 60-member local pipe band sounded up and prepared for the march to Pollagh Church. Later they were joined by pipe bands from Keel, Pollagh and Dookinella and the entire group began the long march around the island.
