The eIsland consortium headed by Mr Denis O'Brien has extended its offer for Eircom until September 7th after receiving valid acceptances of only 1.3 per cent of Eircom.

On August 3rd, Sir Anthony O'Reilly's Valentia raised its offer to euro 1.365 a share including a 3 cent dividend payable by Eircom, which tops a euro 1.36 offer made by eIsland.

Valentia's previous offer was euro 1.27, which valued the takeover target at euro 2.8 billion.
