Fancy holidaying in some of the world’s most beautiful homes?

Ireland’s Home of the Year among 30 properties offering stays in auction for Ukraine

How would you like to have a dream holiday in a not normally available house for a not normally available price while simultaneously supporting the people of Ukraine?

Sounds too good to be true right? Well, this might be one of those very rare occasions when something that sounds too good to be true actually is true.

An online auction of stays in stunning holiday homes in countries including Ireland, the UK, France, Spain and the US will reach a climax this weekend with all the money raised going towards humanitarian relief in war-torn Ukraine.

The idea was the brainchild of author, interiors expert and stylist Josephine Ryan.

She put together a selection of 30 properties of varying degrees of amazingness in beautiful locations which people can bid for a chance to stay in.

Many of the homes which are included in the auction are not usually available to rent and range from an amazing John Pawson designed villa in Mallorca to a lakeside cottage on the shores of Lough Ree.

There are town houses in Bath and country villas in France and a lot more in between.

So, what is on the table?

Well there is a week in a New York City mews in a gated courtyard off Grove Street, for starters.

Built in 1854, the house is charming and quaint, an oasis of calm, perfectly located for the restaurants and shops of the West Village and Soho. It sleeps three and one week has a reserve price of £5,000 (€5,919).

Then there is a week in a gorgeous looking cottage in Cornwall which has a reserve set at £1,500. We also liked the look of a week in a Andalucian house with a pool, which has a similar sized reserve.

There are homes on the Cote d’Azur, including Ryan’s own house in Uzes.

Closer to home there is the Lorum Rectory in Co Carlow, which has space for up to six people and Ballyvolane House in Co Cork, where the Charles and Camila stayed on their recent trip to this part of the world. There is also a wooden cabin on Lough Rae, which the Irish Home of the Year title in 2016.

Most of the offers are for a week in the property with the dates to be negotiated after the sale.

Each of the owners is making the property available free of charge, which means that 100 per cent of the profits will go the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
