The big freeze

Sometimes the simplest suggestions make the most impact

Sometimes the simplest suggestions make the most impact. Faced with a huge pile of lovely lemons purchased for their aesthetic qualities rather than real a need for them, it was guilt-lessening to follow Darina Allen's suggestion to cut excess lemons into small chunks or thick slices and freeze them, ready to drop into a GT or a glass of sparkling water.

Allen credits June Bennett with the idea, and it also works a treat with oranges and limes. If you have piles of nuts left over after Christmas, they too freeze very well, and won't go stale as quickly as they would if left in a cupboard.
