Some 10,000 unwanted items of clothing go to landfill every five minutes according to retailer MS, which wants to see more of its garments being recycled and reused. The company has enlisted Joanna Lumley in a crusade against clothes waste. A new scheme in conjunction with Oxfam aims to get at least some of the 350 million items it sells each year back into the clothes chain. So, each time you buy new at M&S you can donate something old. All stores – including the Irish ones – will now accept old clothes, of any brand. Oxfam will resell or recycle them and the promise is that not a single thing will go to landfill.
