The owner of 85 Ashfield Road, Janine Bunnetta, had a pre-cast concrete spiral wine cellar installed from a kit sent from the UK.
The company that supplies them is spiralcellars.com (tel: 0044 845 241 2768) and the kit includes concrete blocks to hold the wine, stairs, trap door, membrane and steel ring. Bunnetta knows about the stairs through her work renovating houses and her partner is in the wine business so they needed a big cellar.
This watertight, pre-cast cylindrical system thats sunk into the groundcan be located anywhere from a kitchen to a conservatory, workshop to study. It has a wine storage space of up to 1,600 bottles.
While these cellars come in various sizes, ranging from the mini-cellar which holds 650-770 bottles and is up to 1.6m deep (and costs up to £11,800, or €14,836) to the spiral which is 2m-3m deep, holds 1,000-1,600 bottles and costs up to £15,900, or €20,000. These prices include excavation. They don't require temperature guages to keep the temperature constant.
