A meticulously restored office building at Bachelor's Walk is to be let or sold by public tender. The premises is expected to fetch in excess of £500,000.
The four storey over basement building has been totally restored under a restoration programme which began in 1993.
The house, which dates back to 1750, fell into disuse after it was bought as part of a development site. Much of the original panelling and carving was either destroyed or stolen. A fire badly damaged the building's rear rooms and the building needed complete renovation.
The ground, first, and second floor rooms had surviving sections of original panelling, and some of the original window shutters had also survived. The fireplaces had been replaced with clay brick surrounds. However, the original curved brick fire backs were found behind the surrounds.
The original building featured a stunning large open stairwell with raised and fielded panelling, carved in a swan neck at landing.
Other features include new windows with hand made glass reproduction cornices and feature fireplaces, reproduction lights in and walls which have apparently been painted in flat oil colours from the National Trust range.
The total floor area is 3500 square feet. There is a secure covered car park to the rear, which serves the Bachelor's Walk Development, which is also being carried out by Zoe Developments.
The property will be offered for sale freehold, with an option on up to 10 car spaces, or leasehold for 20 years with five year rent reviews.
The dosing date for receipt of tenders is September 27th, and the joint selling agents are Lisney and Hooke & McDonald.
