Raglan Lane has come a long way from the era when it bustled with horses and coachmen servicing the great Victorian piles on Wellington Road. Today it is one of the hottest stretches of mews property in the country.

Elgin Lodge at 16A, has just been completed by John Bennett of Rivertempus who, through his former company Bennett Construction, developed the CHQ building in the IFSC and Burlington Plaza offices in Dublin 4.

The site, which sits to the rear of 16 Wellington Road was sold initially in 2000 for €1.03 million. Planning applications for two properties 16A and 16B were lodged within a month of each other in 2014, both for two-storey over-basement four-bed houses, coincidently by the same architect Jonathan Bennett of Extend in Dalkey, but under different company names.

Exteriors are a blend of granite and natural timbers, with a vehicular entrance – albeit for a small runabout – off the lane and a pedestrian entrance on Elgin Road.

Superb interiors

The interiors are superb, though extra staging would have taken this property to another level because rooms devoid of furniture appear smaller than they actually are.

The selling point of the property, besides its location, is the amount of natural light, from walls of glass and roof lights – one of which on the top floor gives the feeling that it is almost an exterior space.
