Room at the top in period redbrick in Drumcondra for €475,000

Two-bed, mid-terrace house with an attic room

When the owner of 88 Hollybank Road, a residential street linking Drumcondra to Glasnevin, bought the two-bedroom, mid-terrace period house in 2006 all she had to do was figure out the paint scheme she wanted to use.

“The house had already been renovated and updated,” she explains. “All the hard work had been done.”

She painted the place a bright white, adding pops of colour through her furniture and home furnishings. The living room, to the front, has an original, cast-iron fireplace with tiled surround. The original interconnecting doors had been replaced by an arch leading through to the diningroom where a set of doors open out to the rear garden.

Sense of space
The kitchen is situated on the return. The room is bright and airy, thanks in part to a wall of glazing. The decision to limit the number of over-counter units to just the engine part of the room keeps the long space feeling uncluttered. A pitched ceiling adds to the sense of space.

The house, which measures 100sq m (1,080sq ft) is asking €475,000 through agents SherryFitzGerald.

The 14m (47ft) long garden, which is accessible from the kitchen, was revamped by a German language student the owner hired who was a professional landscape gardener.

The garden is good and private. A railway sleeper path steps up past raised beds, a small vegetable patch, a water feature and a garden shed where the owner stores her bike. There is rear pedestrian access.

The family bathroom is on the return. The two bedrooms are on the first floor. The master is to the front, spans the width of the house and retains its original cast-iron fireplace and tiled inset. The second double also has a period cast-iron fireplace.

A spiral staircase leads to the attic, which has been converted and now measures about 16sq m (172sq ft) and has storage under the eaves.

Parking is on street.
