1930s semi with generous garden

Three-bedroom house has plenty of space and includes a room in its long garden

Thorncliffe Park is a small estate of big 1930s semis situated just off Orwell Road on the Dublin 14 side of the Dodder. Some of the properties back on to Milltown Golf Course. The Russian embassy is situated on nearby Orwell Road.

The houses have simple features and generous proportions, notably their gardens. The southwest-facing back garden of number 15 originally measured 150-feet long. Although the present owners have added a garden room at the end, a space for their kids to bring their friends, it remains sizeable, about 100-feet long with herbaceous borders on either side of a lawn with plenty of space to kick a ball in.

The owners extended the house 13 years ago. What was the kitchen became the downstairs wc and utility room.

Kitchen area

They built out extensively to create a really good kitchen-living-diningroom. The kitchen area comprises a large thick oak-topped island with a step down square dining slab with seating on three sides. The storage units are set against the wall and mainly below the counter which helps the room to breathe and knits the livingroom area, where a large picture window frames a view of garden, to the rest of the space. It was installed and designed by Wabi Sabi two years ago.
