FOOD FILE:Mother and daughter Eilis and Sarah Gough produce more than half a million jars of honey each year at their Mileeven Fine Foods in Piltown, Co Kilkenny. Their range now includes a selection of speciality honeys with fruit or nuts added, such as Mileeven honey with sour cherries, blueberries, hazelnuts, walnuts, ginger or lemon.

Some of the uses for the new range are obvious – they are perfect partners for a bowl of natural yoghurt, or porridge, for instance. And of course, they’re delicious spread on brown bread or toast. But to get the best idea of how to use them, there are some interesting recipes at www.mileeven.com, such as using a spoonful of the honey with lemon in a vegetable stir-fry, or a little of the honey with ginger in an Asian cucumber salad. The range sells for between €2.99 and €4.50 and is available from Avoca outlets, Morton’s, Fallon and Byrne, Butler’s Pantry, Donnybrook Fair, McCambridges in Galway, Gourmet Store and Nellie’s Farm Shop in Kilkenny, and some health-food shops.
