Ingredients
- 2 large pork steaks
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp Chinese five spice
- 2 cloves garlic
- 15g ginger
- 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 2 additional tbsp honey, for marinade baste
- To serve: rice or noodles, sliced cucumber, sauteed greens
1 Place all of the marinade ingredients into a blender or Nutribullet and blitz till smooth. Or grate the ginger and crush the garlic and mix everything in a jar.
2 Place the pork steaks into a large ziploc bag or into a tupperware container. Pour the marinade over them and coat evenly. Leave for at least an hour, or overnight if possible.
3 Preheat your oven to 180 degrees. Place a rack into a high sided baking tray. Half fill the tray with boiling water and place the pork onto the rack. It shouldn't touch the water.
4 Heat the remaining marinade in a small pan with two more tablespoons of honey, till thick and glossy. Roast the pork for 30 minutes, turning and basting with the marinade every 10 minutes, until cooked through. Finally, place the meat under a hot grill to crisp up the edges.
5 Leave to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving right away.
