Rare Irish whiskey to be sold by ballot

Collector interest expected for first bottles in Jameson Anthology series

Sales of Jameson whiskey continue to grow, posting a very healthy 22 per cent increase in the last six months of 2021 over the same period in 2020. Earlier this week, Irish Distillers released the first whiskey in the Jameson Anthology series, a new range of special, limited releases. Each will fall into one of two categories, both with a nod to music. Volume 1 will feature remastered old classics, a fresh take on previous Jameson whiskies. Volume 2 will be remixed, a completely new exploration of Jameson. “Boundaries will be pushed,” says master distiller Kevin O’Gorman, recently awarded Distiller of the Year 2022 at The Icons of Whiskey Awards.

The first release is the 15-year-old Single Pot Still whiskey. This was once a favourite with connoisseurs but has not been produced since 2000. I recently had the opportunity to taste three components that make up the final blend, from 15 to 17 years old, each aged in Bourbon or Oloroso casks. The Remastered Jameson 15-year-old Single Pot Still is rich and powerful, with intense flavours of caramel, orchard fruits and dates with some dried herbs on the lingering finish. It is a very impressive first outing for the Jameson Anthology Series.

Bottled at an ABV of 56.4%, Jameson 15-Year-Old Single Pot Still comes in a 500ml bottle and will retail at €300 with a limited quantity of 2,200 bottles available through two online ballots on April 4th and 8th.
