With the temperature topping 28 degrees last month, it has become finally acceptable to use the term summer. But heatwave fashion doesn't come naturally to us Irish because we aren't actually used to having to function during warm weather – our natural reaction is to strip off and lie down. While this definitely wouldn't be well received at work, nothing feels better than slipping into a suitably hot-weather-office-appropriate dress that is cool and crisp while everyone else wilts. The city-to-shore kaftan is a surprise hit this season – it's becoming an everyday wardrobe staple. Not to be confused with the just-stepped-off-a-yacht embellished kind, this is a more refined, streamlined style from the likes of Pippa Holt, who counts editor Alexandra Shulman of British Vogue as a fan. Cinched in at the waist and styled with a pair of simple, unfussy block leather sandals, it'll keep you'll be fresh to face the heat – for as long as that may last.
Great creations at BTs
Create at Brown Thomas celebrates its seventh year with a carefully curated collection of established and emerging designers. With 22 designers selected, diversity of work includes handbags by Ale Walsh, wall art by Domino Whisker, and jewellery by Bláithín Ennis. Returning to the fold is legendary designer Lainey Keogh, with her special collection of contemporary cashmere designs in dusty pastel hues. Ready-to-wear designer Helen Cody has created an exclusive white shirting collection, with the classic go-to getting an out-of-character makeover, with Cody experimenting with proportions and shapes for entirely new incarnations. Tailoring continues with 31 Chapel Lane's ethically made collection of Irish linen in relaxed and minimal silhouettes. And returning designer Éadach by Sara O'Neill has evolved her signature scarves, which featured last year, for a range of kimonos inspired by mythical Irish legends. Create will take place on Level 1, Brown Thomas Dublin from Monday July 3rd to Sunday, August 13th.

"Trust your immediate gut instinct when you're standing in front of a mirror. Whether that's at home getting ready, or in a shop changing-room; if it doesn't feel right, don't wear it or buy it." – Aisling Keenan, editor
