Two vehicles collided in Cobden, Victoria early Saturday morning

A young Irish man has died following a car crash in Victoria, Australia over the weekend.

The 18-year-old man died after two vehicles collided in Cobden at about 1.20am on Saturday morning, according to Victoria Police.

Australian media are reporting that the teenager, who died at the scene, was Irish while two other Irish men, aged 30 and 21, travelling in the same car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The female driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Detectives will investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, a statement from Victoria Police said.

“We’ll be doing a full investigation which will involve speed, drugs, alcohol, inattention. We’ll also be looking at the environment, it was wet and rainy,” detective Leigh Miller of Victoria Police told 9 News.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of reports and stands ready to provide consular assistance.
