Mulled wine spice mix

  • 85g demerara sugar
  • 1tsp ground ginger
  • ½tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½tsp cinnamon
  • 8 cloves
  • 1 pinch fennel seeds
  • 4 slices dried orange
  • 1 bottle red wine, I use shiraz
  1. Mix the sugar with the spices in a jar and shake to combine. Place the orange slices on top.
  2. To make the mulled wine, tip the contents of the jar into a muslin bag or cloth and gather up the corners. Simmer gently in red wine until just warm enough to drink. Be careful not to let it boil.
