Album Review: Ballet School – The Dew Lasts an Hour

B y all accounts, Berlin-based Ballet School's live shows veer towards the amateur dramatic side of things – lots of interpretive dancing, and the like. Removed from that, however, the trio come across as leading contenders for an 1980s revisit – albeit one that is populated by the likes of Cocteau Twins and The Sundays. If there's a hurdle to jump over, it's that Belfast's Rosie Blair (who had a blink-and-you- miss-it role as Siouxsie Sioux in the Good Vibrations movie) evokes Cocteau Twins' singer Elizabeth Fraser so uncannily that it might be off putting to those who don't like to be reminded. You should try your best to jump over that hurdle, however, because Ballet School very cooly, instinctively, tie up the loose ends between brusque indie pop, shimmering synth/guitar hybrids, and a tremulous mixture of T'Pau and (yes, again) Liz Fraser. balletschoolband.com Download: Heartbeat Overdrive, Cherish, Ghost
