David Mamet, laureate of foul language and the creative repetition, is to tackle one of the most admired and sensitive stories in 20th century history.

It has been announced that the playwright is planning a film version of The Diary of Anne Frank. Does this allow us an opportunity to drag out the undoubtedly apocryphal anecdote concerning a ghastly production of Anne Frank starring Pia Zadora? Why not?

“She’s in the attic!” the audience were rumoured to have shouted.
