In yesterday's article by Jack Jones of MRBI on the Election Day Survey, reference was made to the overstated level of Fianna Fail first preferences. The following explanatory paragraph was omitted:
"The overstating of the Fianna Fail vote in this campaign is very likely a political rather than a technical phenomenon since it applied to all opinion polls last week. Many of the 170 independent candidates had Fianna Fail associations, either past or recent past. A few were elected; all attracted some of the first preference votes, and many electors very probably saw some of those as still Fianna Fail, or Fianna Fail orientated.
