Open the pod bay doors, HEL Long layovers at airports could become a time for relaxation and sleep with the GoSleep pods recently introduced to Helsinki Airport (HEL). The pods convert from a seat into a comfortable bed with space for hand baggage and a power point. They also have a shade to reduce light and sounds. Designed by a Finnish firm, the pods cost about €9 an hour and are likely to be introduced into more airports. Starwood to open 40 properties Starwood fans and SPG members will be happy to hear the group plans to open more than 40 new properties in Europe over the next five years. This will represent a portfolio increase of some 30 per cent. In Turkey alone the group will open five new hotels by the end of this year. Russia must be expected to be on the up again soon, as eight new hotels are in the pipeline there.
