Web Log: Vodafone app encourages family time

App allows control of home wifi router with parental smartphone

Wifi can be a conversation-killer at the dinner table but one option is to kill the wifi. It might get your kids looking up from their smartphones and tablets long enough to tell you how their school day went.

Vodafone UK has introduced the Vodafone Connect app, allowing parents to control the home wifi router with its new Family Time function. Family Time has direct control of the router from the parental smartphone with the option to switch off access to all connected devices in the house or set a time limit so it's always off at dinnertime or from bedtime.

This is currently available in the UK in Manchester, Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, and is being rolled out to other areas soon. Brian Fitzsimons, product manager for Vodafone UK, told us that while it is not currently available in Ireland, the company is working on that.
