Tech Tools: Lexus debuts prototype hoverboard Slide

The hoverboard has been a pipedream ever since Back to the Future II hit the screens in 1989, and there aren't enough words in English to describe how badly I wanted one as a child. Turns out, it's not something you grow out of. Lexus has demonstrated its very own hoverboard, complete with a pro skateboarder to put it to the test. The good news is it works; the bad news is you need a special surface to use it. Lexus's Slide hoverboard works through magnetic levitation, similar to trains that have been tested in Japan. You need a magnetic track to make it hover, something you aren't likely to find down your local skatepark or road. And it's only a prototype. Of course, it isn't the only one out there. Last year, the Hendo Hoverboard appeared on Kickstarter with a price tag of $10,000 and an initial production run of 10. It also needed a special surface. So not a reality yet, but we're getting closer.
