Apple’s time yet to come

Ireland may have been home to Apple since 1980 and have its very own Silicon Docks, but it seems that's not enough to bump us up the ladder for product launches – in particular, the Apple Watch.

One of the most eagerly awaited wearable tech devices for some time, Apple Watch was released with great fanfare in April, but only to a select number of countries. Bad news if you were an Apple fan in Ireland; we weren’t in the initial roll out.

There were high hopes, however, that the State would be included in the second batch for the watch release, and in the meantime, we could always buy from Apple in the UK.

We've been waiting patiently ever since. But it wasn't to be. Apple this week announced the second round of countries to get Apple Watch would be Italy, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan, two months after its initial release. Again, we've been passed over.

It's not as if they are in desperate need of sales though. Apple Watch has "surpassed [Apple's] expectations", its senior vice-president of operations, Jeff Williams, said.

In saying that, just because the watch is available in your country, it doesn’t mean you’ll get your hands on one immediately. Apple is currently working its way though a backlog of orders, and it estimates it will be another two weeks before it begins selling some models in its retail stores.
