Wozniak endorsed Irish music app to be officially launched in London

"Bono predicted it, we built it and Steve Wozniak endorsed it" – Irish entrepreneur Brendan O'Driscoll about his new music-discovery app Soundwave which will be officially launched at London's flagship Apple Store today.

While the Irish start-up's app faces competition from Twitter Music, it has Stephen Fry and Steve Wozniak in its corner, with the Apple co-founder declaring it "a music product that so perfectly fits my life". The two were both part of the beta testing phase.

The app, which allows users to share what music they are listening to on their phone, went live on iPhone and Android last Thursday, and was in Apple's Top 10 most downloaded free apps in Ireland within hours. Unlike typical music apps that aim to promote manual sharing, the Soundwave app has the unique ability to pull in a user's plays without disrupting regular listening habits.

On the subject of music, social media campaigner Jon Morter who helped Rage Against the Machine reach the UK Christmas No.1 in 2009, will be among the guest speakers at this year's DotConf taking place in Dublin this Friday.

Other speakers at the event, which is on at the National College of Ireland, include CoderDojo co-founder James Whelton, BatCat Games co-founder Andrea Magnorsky, Claire Redmond of the Football Association of Ireland and GrabOne Ireland marketing manager Barry Hand.

The conference will examine digital trends, building a sustainable digital publishing business, simple analytics dashboards, the future of news in a digital world and open innovation.
