Blow In Entertainment reported increases in its cash and profits last year

Comedian Des Bishop appears to be laughing all the way to the bank as the cash pile at his entertainment firm increased to €173,043 last year.

Latest accounts for Bishop’s Blow In Entertainment Ltd show it was a bumper year for the native New Yorker’s company.

The accounts show that the company’s cash pile increased from €41,624 to €173,043, while accumulated profits increased from €19,745 to €74,349 in the 12 months to the end of December 2016.

The comedian established the company in February 2015 to capitalise on his popularity on TV and sell-out crowds at his gigs in Ireland, the UK, the US and Australia.

This year he performed on RTÉ's Dancing with the Stars, and he also fronted his show This Is Ireland.

He is the only employee of the company and paid himself €131,319 last year compared with €53,873 for a 10-month period in 2015. This comprised €90,000 in pay and €41,319 in pension contributions.

Mr Bishop grew up in Queens, New York, and moved to Ireland when he was 14, where he studied in a boarding school. The 41-year-old commenced stand-up while studying at UCC in Cork.
