Environmental issues are an integral part of the decision-making process for Irish firms, according to Dr Mary Kelly, IBEC's assistant director of enterprise, environment and industrial policy.

Speaking at the announcement of IBEC's environmental awareness campaign, Dr Kelly said non-compliance with environmental regulations was not an option for businesses.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among the public of the efforts made by business to improve environmental awareness and standards, she said.

IBEC is hosting an exhibition in the offices of ENFO in Dublin. It features 14 companies that have demonstrated high standards in environmental practice. The campaign also concentrates on raising awareness of good waste management.

Dr Kelly said that the lack of a waste management infrastructure could act as a deterrent to companies investing in the Republic.
